2016 Annual Meeting in Review

50th Annual Meeting of the 63rd Infantry Division Association USAR

By LTC Beverley Houghton for COL James Wisenbaker

The 50th meeting of the association was held on 17 April 2016 at the Fullerton Hotel in Fullerton, California.  It began with the social hour when enabled members to reconnect with old colleagues and friends.    The meeting was called to order by President BG Charles Ebner. The pledge ofAllegiance to the Flag followed, led by CSM Arnold Greenberg.  COL Chaplain Donald Forden led theinvocation. The buffet luncheon was then served and enjoyed by all.

President Ebner served as the Master of Ceremonies for the program for this event.   With a change in format, In lieu of one guest speaker, the attendees became the guest speakers.    Each member was given three to five minutes to briefly relate a special memory of their experience in the Army.

It was Story Time.   For most of the members a few minutes was not enough but memories were gladly shared and enjoyed.  This format was well received and may be continued next year.

In recognition of his service to the board,   LTC James Wright was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation.  LTC Donald Wirth was presented a proclamation in recognition and gratitude for 30 years on the board fulfilling multiple positions including President, Secretary and Webmaster.

The business meeting was conducted by the President beginning with the election of board members.  There were 6 members up for re-election.  COL Richard Garza, COL Lydia Collins,   LTC Donald Wirth,  LTC James Wright, CW4 Layland Carson, and CSM Arnold Greenberg.   LTC Wirth requested to continue to serve in an Emeritus status and LTC Wright requested to retire from the board.  CSM Robert Roberson and SFC Tonya Davis were nominated and elected to the board to fill these positions.   COL Garza, Col Collins, CW4 Carson

and CSM Greenberg were all re-elected for a two year term of 2016-2018.

President Ebner addressed a proposed recommendation to the by-laws that was on the agenda. He stated that this needed more research and postponed further discussion until the 2017 Annual meeting after the board looks at it in more detail.

The traditional opportunity drawing was conducted by COL Collins.  Many items were donated and won including the very special and elaborate gift basket donated by Pan Mitchell in memory of her husband.

Chaplain Forden led the benediction and the meeting was adjourned at 1430 by BG Ebner.

The next meeting will be Sunday 30 April 2017.
